As of 2001 government regulations require that any person seeking to purchase firearms or inherit firearms must have a  valid Possession Acquisition Firearms Licence (P.A.L.). The Possession Acquisition Firearms Licence will also allow you:

  • Own a Firearm
  • Carry a Firearm
  • Borrow a Firearm
  • Purchase Ammunition
  • Obtain a authorization to transport

In order to acquire a Possession Acquisition Firearms Licence you must successfully complete an Canadian Firearms Safety Course and / or  Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course, or successfully challenge a government Canadian Firearms test.

"Without a Possession Acquisition Firearms Licence, an individual will not be in legal possession of firearms and will not be able to purchase ammunition. We do not wish to see anyone inconvenienced and thus we are encouraging people to take action immediately."

The Canadian Firearms Safety Course and / or  Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course are a basic firearms safety course. It is designed to give the student overall background information about safe firearms handling and familiarity with the laws and procedures regarding firearms ownership in Canada.
